Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE)

flash1Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) is an extremely important part of the education of all children. However, it is a non statutory subject without National Curriculum Programmes of Study so that teachers are free to teach this in a way which best meets the needs of their pupils.

At St George and St Martin, the aim of PSHE is to enable our children to play a full and active role in society as children of God. A great deal of PSHE is taught through the diocesan RE programme ‘Learning and growing as people of God’ and through the Creative Curriculum topics. In addition, through everyday teaching and learning, there is an emphasis on developing the following key life skills:

  • Trying new things
  • Working hard
  • Concentrating
  • Pushing oneself
  • Imagining
  • Improving
  • Understanding others
  • Not giving up
